Plain-English summary: CrewCast has no accounts, no ads, no analytics, and sells nothing. Your saved locations live in your own browser. If you enable push alerts, the locations you ask us to watch are stored server-side so we can check the weather for them.
What we store, and where
- Saved locations & settings — stored in your browser's local storage only (on your device). They are not uploaded, logged, or visible to us unless you enable alerts for them.
- Push-alert subscriptions — if you enable notifications, we store your browser's push endpoint plus the label and coordinates of each location you ask us to watch, in our database (hosted on Supabase). This is required to check forecasts and send you alerts.
- GPS coordinates — used in your browser to fetch weather for where you are. Coordinates are sent to the weather providers listed on our Data Sources page as part of each forecast request (that is how weather APIs work). We do not keep a server-side log of your GPS positions.
Analytics & tracking
CrewCast keeps anonymous daily event counters only — for example, "the app was opened 40 times today" or "3 delay reports were generated." Each counter is a date, an event name, and a number. There are no cookies, no user identifiers, no fingerprinting, no coordinates, no IP retention, and no third-party analytics services — the counters live on our own server and cannot be connected to you. Errors are reported the same way: an anonymous "an error happened" count, nothing more. (Earlier versions of this page said "no analytics"; this counter system was added in August 2026 and this page was updated the same day it shipped.)
Selling data
We do not sell, rent, or share your data with anyone. Period.
How notifications work
Alerts are browser push notifications (Web Push) — not SMS or email. Your browser gives us an anonymous push endpoint; our server checks National Weather Service alerts and forecasts for your watched locations and sends notifications through your browser vendor's push service. You can turn them off any time in the app (Alerts → Turn off notifications), which unsubscribes the endpoint and deletes its watched locations from our database.
Deleting your data
- Saved locations — remove them in the app (tap × on a location chip), or clear this site's data in your browser settings.
- Push subscriptions & watched locations — tap "Turn off notifications" in the Alerts panel; this deletes the subscription and its locations from our database (cascade delete).
